I am developing my own distinctive style of bold, strong images in my abstract work such as ’Angry Clown' and 'Study in Black and Yellow'.

I find my proximity to the sea an influencing factor in my work; I like sea and sky, and attempt to create an atmosphere in my impressionist works, such as ‘Sea Bed’ and ‘Purple Waves’. I sometimes like to use naive colours and zany perspectives as in ‘Big Ben in Blue’.

I generally use acrylic on box canvas as my main medium. I occasionally use oils if I need a special kind of texture in addition to a number of techniques I have developed.

I recently created a work called ‘Y Llyn Dawel’ (the Tranquil Lake), a series of three paintings, which are now on display at Terry M Restaurant at the Celtic Manor International Resort.

I wanted to convey a hazy, warm sunset on a forested calm lake; the reflection being a focus of the work.  I used shades of yellow, creams and gold, which match well the deco of the dining area.

Influences:

I very much like the style of David Hockney, in addition to the mood and atmospheric Scottish landscapes, coupled with a genius use of colour and shade created by Gillian McDonald. I own a number of her works.

The colours and light created by Rolf Harris are very inspirational to me. I own a signed limited print by him.

The haunting semi-abstract works of Corrie Chiswell also artistically impresses me.

Comments:

"You think you know them, but then you realise you don't." Henry James, composer, London.

"Thank you so much for the painting and the certificate, I really love it, it will bring me great enjoyment and fond memories for the rest of my life." Angelina, Manager, The Priory Hotel, Caerleon. April 2013.
